A Pomerol reflecting the story of a place, a château and the dedication of Catherine Moeuix and her family
Château Taillefer has a complex structure and is elegant and generous, offering a deep colour and a rich bouquet. Its exceptional ageing capacity makes this one of the most famous wines in Pomerol
Producer Notes: Since the death of Bernard Moueix in 1996, Catherine Moueix and her children, Antoine and Claire, have devoted themselves to their two châteaux, Taillefer and Tauzinat l’Hermitage in Saint-Emilion.
Major work has been undertaken on the vineyard with the adoption of strict growing methods. Catherine Moueix, in collaboration with Professor Dubourdieu, demands that the wine of Taillefer be first and foremost a reflection of the terroir and the family responsible for its destiny.
Appellation: Known the world over for the black truffle aromas derived from the exceptional soils (the famous “crasse de fer” soils with their iron content), the wines of Pomerol combine richness, finesse and generosity. These are wines for gourmets and all those who enjoy the pleasures of life.
Grape varieties: Merlot 75%, Cabernet Franc 25%
Average age of the vineyard - 30 years.
Vine-growing: Short pruning, rational leaf stripping and thinning all lead to perfectly ripe grapes
Press Notes: The Wine Doctor -www.thewinedoctor.com Chateau Taillefer (Pomerol) 2005: This has a dense, creamy, crimson-black hue. On the nose, lovely deep fruit, pure and exotic in character. Ripe and rounded on the palate, with good grip underneath. Firm character, overlaid with soft fruit, well formed tannins. Very stylish wine, delightful fresh, crunchy but ripe fruit. Very, very good indeed, and an excellent wine for the estate. 17.5+/20 (February 2008)
