MIDORI, developed by Suntory, was launched in the United States in 1978. Launched at Studio 54(the world's most famous nightclub) attended by the stars of Saturday Night Fever, including the young up-and-comer, John Travolta. In the year of its release, MIDORI was made the principal ingredient in "The Universe", the creatively named cocktail that won the first prize in the US Bartenders Guild Annual Competition.
